We are pleased to announce our new partnership with Y Waste – the mobile app that helps you locate businesses in your area that have surplus food to offload at the end of the day.
You can then purchase it at a discounted price, paying via your smartphone and pick it up from the venue at the allocated time.
At KiwiHarvest, we are often approached by food outlets who wish to donate prepared food to us which unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, we have to say no to. This could be due to the nature of the food being offered, food that has a short life span, the amount available, or the time of day.
Enter Y Waste, the mobile app that allows food outlets to post up items of unsold food that need to be picked up at a specified time, which customers purchase through the app. In return, all proceeds are donated to KiwiHarvest for us to continue rescuing good food and nourishing communities.
Deborah Manning, CEO and Founder of KiwiHarvest is really excited about this new partnership to reduce food waste and says, “Y Waste is suitable for all kinds of outlets to use. All types of food such as sandwiches, cupcakes, doughnuts, pastry, bread, salads and hot or cold restaurant meals will be able to be posted for sale on the app”.
Food businesses that are interested in joining KiwiHarvest on their mission to rescue good surplus food from going to landfill can register on the Y Waste app either through the website www.ywasteapp.com or by contacting the team at email@example.com.
The Y Waste app is now available across New Zealand for iOS and Android.
