Loaf

Founded in 2004, Loaf is a leading New Zealand bakery that produces high quality artisan breads, pastries, and other sweet treats. As primarily a wholesale bakery, it supplies cafes and food service customers with freshly baked goods and Aotearoa’s biggest supermarkets with mini bites and slices.

Loaf came onboard as one of KiwiHarvest’s first Auckland-based food donors back in 2015 and continues to provide fresh and delicious baked goods to Kiwis in need.

It employs 70 staff members across the company and currently exports internationally to Australia, Asia and beyond. Loaf is committed to addressing the issue of food waste and encourages their customers to repurpose, revive or preserve their stale products.

We spoke to Eden Greenwood, Marketing and Communications Manager at Loaf about our partnership.

What made you decide to partner with KiwiHarvest?

Food waste is a massive issue in New Zealand, particularly in regard to fresh produce with short shelf lives, such as fruit, vegetables, and bread. Loaf was keen to support an initiative that aligned with our values of reducing food waste.

Why is striving for a sustainable business model important to you?

It’s important for us to implement sustainable practices within our business because reducing our food waste, in turn, has a positive effect on the environment. It also plays a key part in reducing our carbon footprint while allowing us to help groups in our community that are less fortunate.

What challenges has partnering with KiwiHarvest helped you to address?

KiwiHarvest has created a meaningful opportunity for our excess product to be used by communities that really need it. It also has a positive effect on our team knowing that the food we are unable to use will be helping others instead of ending up in the landfill.

We are proud to be a partner of a company like KiwiHarvest who are having a meaningful and sustainable impact on our community. We can’t wait to see what the next ten years brings!
